Ring in the New Gear

Philippians 3:13-14 – “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do , forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”

To see God do something great in your life, quit can never be an option.  One of the greatest boxers in history, Roberto Duran, still ranked among the best of the best, unfortunately, is remembered for only one thing…quitting.  In a rematch in November, 1980 against Sugar Ray Leonard, Duran quit in the 8th round, crying those famous words, “No mas, no mas”, meaning “no more, no more”.  I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to be remembered as one who quit during my greatest trial when the pressure was on.

I want to be like Paul, who during one of the worst times of his life in a Philippian prison, bound in chains said, “this one thing I do, I forgot those things that are behind and I press toward the mark…”.  In other words, he switched into a new gear, and it was NOT reverse, NOT neutral, NOT even low gear, but into high gear, going forward!

In Exodus 14, we are told of God miraculously splitting the Red Sea.  In verse 15, “And the LORD said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward:”…in verse 31, “And Israel saw that great work which the LORD did…”

People who keep moving forward, in spite of their circumstances or what their senses are saying, are destined to see God do something great in their lives.  If you keep moving forward and refuse to turn back, you are about to see the best year that you’ve experienced thus far.

First thing you need to do is find that “one thing” that God has assigned you to do.  The best way to destroy a man’s vision is to give him two.  Second thing you need to do is forget your failures, and forget your successes, start fresh and take the limits off God.  Third thing, press toward your “one thing”, your purpose, the “high calling”, God’s divine assignment for your life.  Focus like a laser beam on that assignment, don’t let anything distract you from fulfilling your purpose.  Don’t settle for good or better, give your very best in all that you do.  Go ahead, ring in the New Year by shifting into a NEW GEAR!
