Psalm 71:3 (Amplified Bible) "Be to me a rock of refuge in which to dwell, {and} a sheltering stronghold to which I may continually resort, which You have appointed to save me, for You are my Rock and my Fortress."
Whether you made your summer vacation plans many months ago or several days ago, the anticipation of getting away is like no other. The countdown starts…you tie up loose ends at work, you call the kennel, you get someone to check the mail and water the flowers, you get a mani/pedi, you pack, you get more accomplished just before vacation than you have all summer! The day has finally arrived, you're on your way, you're having a great time, then you're home. You unpack, pick up the dog, get some groceries, and life returns to normal.
Well, how would you like to live at the "perfect resort"? Every day. It's possible you know. David said of the Lord in Psalm 71:3, "Be to me a rock and refuge in which to dwell, a sheltering stronghold to which I may continually resort". With God, He is our dwelling place, we don’t come and go, as on vacation. Acts 3:19 says "times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord", and you don't even have to leave your house!
How awesome is our God, that He would live in us, and we would live in Him (1 John 4:15, Ephesians 3:17), be our personal refuge in which to dwell, a sheltering stronghold in the storms of life, a fortress when under attack, a resting place, a safe place, a rock on which to stand, immovable, unshakable, secure in His loving arms.
There is no place on earth, no fancy resort, that compares to the abiding presence of God. There's nothing that can satisfy your soul like spending time worshiping and thanking God for His goodness, and meditating on His extravagant love for you. Vacations are really great, but if you want a little bit of heaven on earth, every single day, do like David did and make God's presence the place in which you "continually resort".
